The Agilent 1200 Series Refractive Index Detector (RID) is a highly sensitive and universal HPLC detector designed for the analysis of compounds that do not absorb in the UV-Visible range. It operates by measuring changes in the refractive index of the mobile phase as sample components elute from the column. The detector offers a wide refractive index range from 1.00 to 1.75 RIU and provides excellent sensitivity with a noise level of ≤ 2.5 × 10⁻⁹ RIU and a drift of ≤ 1 × 10⁻⁷ RIU/h at stabilized temperature. With a flow rate range of 0.2 to 10 mL/min and a maximum pressure of 5 bar, it supports a variety of chromatographic applications. The RID cell volume is approximately 12 μL and it includes precise temperature control up to 55 °C, ensuring baseline stability. It is particularly suitable for analyzing sugars, alcohols, polymers, and other non-UV-active compounds. The Agilent 1200 RID is commonly integrated with ChemStation or OpenLab software and uses a long-life tungsten light source. Its robust performance and broad detection capability make it a key component in carbohydrate analysis, GPC/SEC, and other specialized HPLC applications.
